Carter Mollenhauer 2020 'Aurora' Cinsault, Itata
Origin: Itata Valley, Chile
Grape varieties: 100% Cinsault
About the Wine, Winemaker, & Winemaking Process
Karine and her husband, Edgar Mollenhauer have a family-run winery in the Maule Valley of Chile where they produce a few small-production wines from local grapes. Their idea is to elevate the reputation of Chilean wine through their hard work farming organically, with minimal intervention in the cellar. Everything is done by hand, with gravity (instead of pumps), free of synthetic chemicals, minimal intervention of the musts, and always unfiltered. Making pure wine which expresses the beautiful terroir where they reside between the Pacific Coast and the Andes Mountains.
This beautiful Cinsault is hand harvested & fermented spontaneously - whole clusters of grapes in concrete vats, and native yeasts. The wine continues aging in concrete tanks for 8 months, and is bottled unfined & unfiltered.
You can expect a dry, medium-bodied red, with grainy tannins, a slight chalky/mineral sensation, with a little flinty note making it serious and full of character! The wine has a slightly peppery flavor, with some floral and fruit aromatics on the nose. The wine finishes long and super tasty. This will be a new favorite in the Svec household!!
