Michelini i Mufatto 2018 'GY' Malbec/Cabernet Franc
Origin: Mendoza, Argentina
Grape(s): 60% Malbec, 40% Cabernet Franc
Very well-balanced, medium-bodied red wine. Juicy berry & plum flavors that will delight those of you who love Malbec!
The grapes come from 3 different parcels located at different altitudes throughout the high-elevation, Gualtallary subzone in order to show the character and terroir of this exciting new region. The Malbec and Cabernet Franc are co-fermented with 30% stem inclusion of the Malbec only. Wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts before aging in barrel for 18 months.
A little bit of background on the winemakers:
Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini started their winery in 2019 alongside their son Manuel Michelini. They are situated at the foot of the Andes in one of the highest elevations of the Uco Valley where the soil contains some of the richest components of calcium carbonate and granite in all of South America. This particular sub region is at the highest, most western portion of Gualtallary and goes by the name La Cautiva. At Michelini i Mufatto they strive to make some of the most unique wines of Argentina and the wines show tension, elegance and balance.
